glimpse of unseeing
Oct 4th - Oct 31st, 2024
STACKT Market, 28 Bathurst St, Toronto
The act of unseeing is to have one's eyes open without noticing; willfully unaware.
Emerging artists Cassandra Lui, Katarina Holbrough, and Xiaobang Li engage in the act of looking, absorbing, and omitting. From Lui’s intimate portraiture to Holbrough’s liminal forms leading to Li’s humorous confrontation with the mundane; glimpse of unseeing creates space for the act of noticing.

Katarina Holbrough
A projected world of nocturnal ephemeral spaces, Holbrough’s work delineates omitted realities using liminal forms to confront the unseen. The transcorporeal environment engulfes the canvas, while only specific elements are detailed and fleshy. The sea of phthalo green illuminates the dark night scene. You are brought into an untethered world, where you are forced to confront your ignorance.

Influenced primarily by the old masters, Xiaobang's mission is to impart knowledge and share high-quality oil paintings with individuals who have a keen interest in drawing and painting.
The inspiration for Xiaobang Li’s technique and design comes from the illustrious masters of the Renaissance. Infused with vibrant colours, graceful lines, and aesthetically pleasing shapes, Xiaobang Li’s work embodies their timeless influence. While art remains subjective to some extent, he holds a belief in the artist's mission to communicate beauty, awakening the viewer's visual senses and evoking feelings of delight
